Detail: a specific assignment or a duty. Unit: a specific activity within an area, division, or section. Section: a major activity within a office, bureau, group, area, or division. Division: a functional subdivision of activities within a office, bureau, group, or area. Area: a geographic subdivision of an operations bureau. Group: a functional segregation of activities and/or an assembling of two or more divisions or sections within a office or bureau. Bureau: a major segregation, either functional or geographical, of kindred phases of activities within the department. 
Office: a functional office under the direction of the Chief of Police. Department: the Los Angeles Police Department.
